Because I am member of the Advisory Board of TechSmith I received an invitation for a sneak peek into the new Camtasia Studio version some weeks ago for testing purpose. Camtasia is the product with which you can produce screencasts. For examples see my screencasting blog (screencasting and video podcasting). Today I received the final version. I just installed it this morning. January 18 it will be launched into the market. TechSmith also has a weblog: The Visual Lounge.
New features are:
– flash 8 support
– captions (adding subtitles or converting speakernotes of powerpoint)
– quizzing (measurable fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice questions with feedback by email)
– rich media presentation option (webcam video + screencaptures)
– H264 and Quicktime 7 support (reduced file size with better quality)
– 30 days free hosting
Next week I am going to produce a screencasting on MSN Messenger with Erwin van Lun. So great to work with the new product then.

Hans do you know if this is going to be a free upgrade for existing users?
Hi Hans and Pierre,
Yes, you should be a free upgrade to Camtasia Studio 3.1 if you have Camtasia Studio 3.0.
If you have Camtaisa Studio 1.0 or 2.0, you should be eligible for upgrade pricing (usually 1/2 price for upgrades). If you own older versions of Camtasia (not Camtasia Studio), you will need to purchase the full version.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have questions…
Thanks for using Camtasia Studio!

Hi Betsy,
Thank you for the info. I have Camtasia Studio 3.0 so that is good news since I really look forward to being able to directly export to iPod-compatible format.
